Stammt vom Alpaka-Lama, das im südamerikanischen Gerbirge in Höhen zwischen 4000-5000 Metern lebt. Die Wolle ist sehr seidig, fein, jedoch fest und isoliert gut. Alpakawolle wird auch als "Gold der Inkas" bezeichnet, was auf die Hochwertigkeit dieser Haare schließen läßt.
